Knocked Up Movie Review

Knocked Up (R)

Alison is a hard working, career minded, beautiful woman.  Ben (Seth Rogen) is a pot smoking, unemployed, crude, fugly. After a night of drinking at a local club, these two opposites meet, laugh, and have a one night stand. Eight weeks later while working at her thriving career at "E Entertainment," Alison begins to feel the wrath of morning sickness. After a talk with her sister and countless pregnancy tests, her fears were confirmed, she was pregnant. The two star-crossed lovers meet at a restaurant where she sheds the shocking news, and the two begin the awkward unplanned adventures of parenthood.

After the huge success of "40 Year Old Virgin" Judd Apatow returns, writing and directing this not so romantic comedy. His writing is a great balance of comedy and story. He straps you in and takes you on the roller coaster ride of having a kid...with a stranger. The casting was terrific in this film. The virtually unknown Seth Rogen does an excellent job playing a sloppy, uninspired average Joe. His acting and timing was perfect for his role; proving he can be funny and drop a couple of lines of sensitivity in the mix. The beautiful Katherine Heigl proves that she is not just another pretty face but can also be funny. The true essence of the film comes from the strong performances of the co-stars. Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd steal many scenes playing a confused, frustrated, yet loving married couple. Mann's energy and prolific dialogue demands the attention and laughter of the audience. Rudd's character is the opposite, and is a laid back guy, who likes to have fun. Rudd creates great interaction between him and Rogen, and also Heigl. Overall this is the one of the best comedies of the last couple years, and Apatow is demanding respect, and is proving to be the great comedic writers.
